Italy to hold Tunisia talks over Lampedusa migrants

Italy's interior minister is to visit Tunis for talks aimed at stopping the flow of migrants to the Italian Mediterranean island of Lampedusa.
More than 15,000 people, mainly Tunisians but including some Libyans and Moroccans, have arrived since January's uprising in Tunisia.
An Italian naval vessel will begin ferrying some of the new arrivals off the island beginning on Wednesday.
The San Marco can carry up to 700 passengers.
Interior Minister Roberto Maroni announced that he would visit Tunis on Wednesday to discuss the situation.
His visit comes as concern mounts across Italy at the situation developing on the tiny island.
The UN refugee agency says tensions are rising between migrants and the local population and there is "chaos and disorganisation".
Barefooted migrants can be seen wandering through the streets looking vainly for somewhere to sleep.

Italian authorities ship them each day to processing centres in Sicily or on the mainland, but new arrivals continue to outnumber departures.
The normal winter population of Lampedusa, whose economy is based on tourism and fishing, is only 5,000. That has doubled with the influx of North Africans.
The mayor of Lampedusa is desperate for help to relieve pressure on the island's very limited resources.
The Italian government has asked every region of Italy to make arrangements to welcome some of the migrants, many of whom aim to rejoin family members established in other EU countries.
