Atletico Madrid’s David De Gea: Iker Casillas Won The Derby For Real Madrid

| Tuesday, March 22, 2011
Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea believes his Real Madrid counterpart Iker Casillas was the main reason behind his side's derby defeat on Saturday evening.

The Merengues shot-stopper pulled off a number of sensational saves to help Madrid pick up a 2-1 victory, and De Gea was left to rue the Spain No. 1's heroics between the sticks.

"The reason for our defeat to Real Madrid was Casillas," he said, according to Marca. "We had a number of opportunities but we were unable to put them away."

The 20-year-old went on to speak about Mesut Oezil's goal which put Blancos two goals up during the first half, saying: "What happened on Oezil’s goal is that I didn’t see the ball until very late because they had some players in front of me."

De Gea then touched on the derogatory chants from the Vicente Calderon faithful aimed at Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo, adding briefly: "It was unfortunate to hear the chants, but it happens in many stadiums."

Atletico Madrid have failed to beat their bitter city rivals since 1999.
